When General Sheridan requested support from Crawford, governor of Kansas, Crawford asked for volunteers and Moore joined the Nineteenth Kansas Cavalry as a Lieutenant Colonel. The author gives accounts of Custer and the Washita fight and their efforts after the battle to subdue the remaining roaming Indians in Oklahoma and Sweetwater Texas, Satanta and Lone Wolf included.
