Roberts. Laid in is a handwritten letter dated June 12th 1879 discussing the book, signed by James B. Fry. "General Cyrus S, Roberts. Birth: unknown Death: Mar. 19, 1917 United States Army Brigadier General. His son, Charles Duval Roberts was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, (He earned the Medal of Honor on 1 July 1898 while serving as Second Lieutenant, 17th United States Infantry, at El Canney, Cuba, during the Spanish American War,) Died at the age of 75 years at Seaside Hospital in Long Beach, CA. following a cerebral hemorrhage. He came to Long Beach 3 months ago accompanied by his daughter, the wife of Capt. Tilman Campbell. In addition to his daughter he leaves a son, Maj. C.D. Roberts. Gen. Roberts was active in the army service from 1861 until 1913. He was born on a farm near Lakeville, Ct. At the age of 21 he enlisted in the Union Army as a member of a NY regiment. During the Civil and Indian wars he served as an aide to Gen. Crook. He also served throughout the Spanish-American war. His elevation to the rank of brigadier-general occurred shortly before he retired in 1913." Ancestry.com.
